Elise, her Play-Doh, and a teeny-weeny soapbox in between...

Elise had a day off this past week, and with the others in school, and Leah helping Robert at the store, it was just the two of us.

My cheese ball...

Anyway, what better way is there to spend the afternoon, than making Play-Doh creations?

Yes, Elise still sucks her thumb. Except at school. She never sucks it at school. Even when we're at Sierra's school. She won't suck it there, either. But the moment she takes a step out of the school doors, it goes in her mouth. Really, she doesn't suck her thumb all of the time. She is getting better about it. But don't point fingers at me, saying how terrible it is that my 4½ year old still likes her thumb. Not to go off on a tangent here, but I have a huge pet peeve with parents who want their kids to be perfect and stress about every little habit or idiosyncrasy. Trying to 'break' their child of every little habit, just to make themselves look like good parents. I do encourage Elise not to suck her thumb, but she is not being naughty, rude, impolite, or disgusting to others by doing it, so I'm not going to make a huge to-do about it. Same with Abby and her biting her nails. We ALL have something we do to relax, zone out, escape, etc. Whether it's reading, watching TV, eating, exercising, or chewing on a pencil, there's something each of us gravitate toward when we need to chill out, and kids are no different. In the grand scheme of things, sucking a thumb for a few years or even biting nails for a lifetime is the absolute least of my worries. I really could keep going on and on about that, but I won't. :)

I love all the different, and sometimes funny, faces Elise makes when she is in her own little world. Looking through these pictures, I really appreciate how this little girl uses her face in all its capacity.

I love how she uses her face too! Pictures of her (and all the kids) always make me smile. I love that you capture their daily life so beautifully!

And I agree about the thumb-sucking, nail-biting.. etc. Of course I'm the horrible mother that still lets my kid have a paci.. =]
