Well We're Movin' On Up...

...but not to the east side (or anywhere, for that matter!), and I wouldn't say we finally have a piece of the pie. And our last name isn't Jefferson. Just wanted to clear all that up first.

I just wanted to write a post to say how proud of Robert I am. Right now he's heading over to his first Chamber of Commerce coffeemeetingthingamajig. That's right. Robert is a part of the Chamber of Commerce in Sac City! He also will be going to a young entrepreneurs dinnermeetingthingamajig this evening.

But it didn't happen overnight.

It started over 10 years ago, when Robert got his hands on a computer that didn't work. Very long story short, he ate, slept, and breathed computers. He learned all he could about the inner workings of a computer. It became a passion. One he just had that special knack for. A truly God-given talent for.

Fast forward to now, and he is the small business owner of Iowa Computer Depot (ICD), LLCICD officially opened its doors April 2009, and has been really thriving - and that's just from word of mouth! The most advertising he has done has been an ad here and there in small, local papers, and flyers in local, small stores.

Here is a photo of his table for an open house last November for new businesses...

Currently, his office is in the Howard Center building. The Howard Center is a non-profit human services organization that specializes in the care of mentally disabled people. The arrangement has been a benefit for both ICD and the Howard Center.

Unfortunately (well, really, it's a very good thing), ICD has outgrown its office in the Howard Center. Robert is in the midst of looking at a couple different location options to allow ICD the ability to grow to its full potential. He has a guy that has helped him out, who knows computers pretty well (and from CA, no less! It's nice to have a fellow Californian because they just "know" and you feel a little less like a loner in a strange land. But God has given us so, so many wonderful friends, who are family to us, so even if we never see another Californian on Iowa soil, it's OK because we aren't loners. Though, sometimes we may feel like we're in a strange land! Sorry for the total rabbit trail there...) and once ICD is in a building of its own, he will be hired as an employee. The guy from CA, who helps Robert, that is. My rabbit trail might have made you forget who the 'he' is. :)

And that's where it's at. Just taking steps of faith. Robert still works at the bio diesel refinery, but I do hope he can be just the computer guy someday soon.
