The Road Not Taken


 Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth.


Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same.


And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.


I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

I read this poem for my high school graduation, but it didn't hold a lot of meaning to me at the time. I've recently read it again with new eyes, in view of my life since then.
 
I have definitely taken the road less traveled in the world's view. I married my best friend young, have a relatively large family (though we were trying not to, lol), found myself by staying home with my kids rather than finding myself in work, and making sacrifices of things most would consider necessities to do so, loving Jesus, loving others, and teaching my kids to do the same.
And it has made all the difference.

Did you see "Up"? Similar theme. Only all along he regretted not taking the path he dreamed of, until he realized sometimes the real adventure isn't in the dream, it's all around us in real life.
